My son was recently invited to one of his friend’s birthday and asked me if we could make him a dinosaur card. We started crafting and made a cute dinosaur birthday card.
In this post, we will show you how to make a pop up card. These are great for birthday wishes, valentine’s day, mother’s day or any other special occasion.
How to make a pop up card
The pop up cards are quite easy to make and to personalize. You could replace our dinosaur image by flowers, cakes, butterflies, etc..
You will need:
- Two construction papers
- Printed animals/shapes/etc..
Step 1: Fold the two construction papers in half.
Step 2: Measure the height and the width of your printed shape and report the measures on one of the construction paper. It should be the inside one. The folded side should be the base of your measures.
Step 3: On the marked construction paper, cut the length only, with the folded side closer to you. These are the plain lines – do not cut the dotted line.
We used one shape for our card, but you can use more. For each additional one, you will have to cut extra slices following the same method.
Step 4: Open the construction paper, and fold the slide you just cut inward. When you release it, it should pop up.
Step 5: Stick your printed shape to the slice, making sure it is facing the right direction.
Step 6: Stick the inside construction paper to the outside one. Make sure to not put any glue on the pop-up box.
Well done! You, now, know how to make a pop up card. I told you it was easy!
How to decorate your dinosaur birthday card
Now that you have your pop-up card, you will need to decorate it and add messages.
You can use our model as inspiration or personalize it as you want. You can use pop up cards for a lot of different occasions and here is an example of a birthday card you could make.
Here are the steps we followed to make our dinosaur birthday card.
Here are all the items we used to decorate our dinosaur birthday card.
We started by the inside of the card to which we added dinosaur prints on both sides.
We then used glitter pens for the messages:
- The roar message
- The 7 today and the candle
- The Happy birthday message
At his stage, the card looked like this.
We then decorate the main side.
I wrote a message on the top of the card with markers.
Then, we cut a white piece of paper with craft scissors, aiming to draw a dinosaur on it.
For that, we asked my daughter to the rescue (my son handprint was a bit too big). We spread green paint on her hand and asked her to press on the white paper!
Once the paint dry, we draw the neck and the head of the dinosaur with a green marker. Then added a balloon with a 7 in the middle.
We finished by sticking the white paper on the card.
I hope you enjoyed this little craft. Now that you know how to make a pop up card, will you be making some for Valentine’s day?
